What’s your legacy?
If you summed up your life in one sentence, what would it be?
What do you want to be remembered for? What do you want to pass on to your family? Your community? Your organization? Your associates?
Answers can be found in a quote from baseball great Jackie Robinson,
“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives” and in the
old saying that,
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” We challenge you to think about the special moments in your life and guarantee that they are associated with people, not places or material things.
Pledge to focus more on life’s priorities. Make an effort to have a positive impact on others. Show that you care by spending time with them. Let them know how important they are—because they can’t know you appreciate them if you don’t tell them. Encourage them through hard times. Coach them to better performance. Recognize jobs well done and extra effort. When you take time to bring out the best in others, just like seasoning brings out the flavor of food, you will bring the best out in yourself.
Create a legacy. Give the gift of yourself by answering the following questions. Your impact will be determined by the actions you take.
-
What legacy do I want to leave behind?
-
How can I make a lasting impact?
-
What is at the top of my list?
-
How can I make a positive difference?
-
How can I contribute?
-
How can I help others?
-
Who needs to hear from me? What can I do to let them know how important they are?
